Safaricom IPO ripoff by banks
Have you though why banks are so much into funding the Safaricom IPO? I have my reasons to think something is not right...100% finance and NO securities, I guess this time we can reason together and get it right.

My thinking is, these guys want to own safaricom. For what it is, if you default payment, they take ownership of the shares. As a corporate, they have a limit of how many shares they can buy and so they try to maximize the chances by using innocent broke Kenyans. That is my view, What do you think??

you are half right
you are right they want to gain lot more shares than they can get as a corporate but then isnt it an advantage to those who cannot afford a security upfront??coz the only security is your account with them.that means if you afford to pay the loan then you own the shares and will only have to pay a small interest for the loan.i think they are doing a great favour to kenyans coz even if you cannot afford to service the loan then you have nothing to loose coz they'll claim your shares which in actual sense is theirs.!!

Security
there so many Kenyans out there who can't get loans not that they can't pay back, but they don't have security like title D's,long books and other big properties required by the banks but i think due to stiff competion in the market the banks are now tying to soften there stand to facilitate even the low income erners, like if you want a car loan, the bank will buy the for you and retain the long book of that car till u finish paying so if you default they'll only withdrow that car from u and nothing else is that not the same case with the safaricom IPO ,that they are financing -n-way i don't think many kenyans will let go the opportunity by defaulting payment,Ithink you should encourange more pple to utilise this golden opportunity ama?

Look at the oportunity
You could be right, however I suggest you look at the advantage availed to you and plan within it wisely. We are just getting modern as this happens in many other countries. If you can get a car, house or furniture loan, why not shares where you could gain? Look at what you can own using the advantage availed and not what others can own. Think about yourself and gain
